Happy Birthday Ms Ryan

Next week is Ms Ryan's birthday. The parents came in and celebrated with a cake and present. Nihilan made a cake with his mum for Ms Ryan. He used the clown face as an inspiration from the Mask parade.

Foundation Day

This week AIS celebrated it's 17th birthday! All Junior classes met on the oval to sing Happy Birthday and have a cupcake!

Making Paper

This week we looked at how paper is made. Paper comes from wood pulp but is a man made material. This was fun!
 

New Unit of Inquiry - How the world works!

 

This week we began the new UOI with the central idea "Materials can be transformed into something different for a purpose. We connected this with our maths unit on 3D shapes and Mid Autumn Lantern Festival and made Lanterns using sticks to make the shape.

Junior School Athletics

This week all the junior school classes had their Athletics carnival. It was so much fun. We competed in wet sponge race, sprint race, javelin, shuttle relay and the obstacle course! Thanks Mr Barnes for organising for us.

Corinne Gibbons shares her music

Corinne Gibbons visited our class to share her music with our class and 2ME. The visit connected with our Units of Inquiry about Sharing the Planet and How We Express Ourselves. Corinne sang lovely songs about our planet and how we can look after it. Thank you to Cathy Maslen for assisting in making the visit possible.

Using dominoes in Maths


We used dominoes in Maths for adding and subtracting. We also used them to design a track to knock things over. We had to work cooperatively with each other and be thinkers to complete the task!

We are learning about symmetry in our world. We made patterns to show symmetry on the interactive board and in our books using blocks.

Stuart and Ella hosted out Term 3 assembly. We presented our class play called "The 2 dwarfs, their guests and the big crazy house."

Walk-a-thon for Banjo - Singapore Zoo


On Friday we went to the zoo. We raised money for Banjo the orangutang. AIS sponsors Banjo. We went by bus to and back to school. We ate lunch at the zoo and ate recess at school. The best part was when Banjo's friend came up close to the Year Ones.

Drama Drama Drama

This week was a very short week. We had fun with our drama lessons. Ms Ryan made up stories and we acted them out!

Skype with Bishop Druitt College!


Last week we had a 'skype' with a year 2 class in Coffs Harbour , NSW, Australia. The children asked questions about each school and found some intersting comparisons!

Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday we had our swimming carnival. We went in races and tried our best. We were real risk takers! Thanks to Cathy Maslen for taking our class photos. :)

Another exciting term has begun. I hope all have had a great holiday!

We have started the new unit of inquiry - How we express ourselves. This week we learnt how to do a tableaux! We act and freeze showing at least 3 ideas. This time we acted out our memories.

Mini beast Expo!

















The Mini beast expo demonstrated our understanding of the Unit - Sharing the Planet. The children chose a mini beast to inquire about and presented their information using dioramas and information reports including placemats, power point presentations and posters.

World Environment Day - Mini Beast Parade














Today was World Environment Day. We got to dress up as any mini beast we wanted too. Year 1 went on the stage to show everyone the costumes.It was fun.






We learnt to protect all minibeasts.



Excursion to the Butterfly Park


We went to the Butterfly Park on Sentosa. We went by bus.

Ms Ryan, 1CA, Ms Ken and some mothers came.

1RY fed the birds and held the butterflies. We went to the museum and we went in a cave.

We saw dead spiders and all types of insects, scary insects, hairy insects and colourful butterflies.

We ate by the water fountain. We saw Toucans.
A bird landed on my head but Georgie scared it away!

New Maths Game -Flower Gardens







We learnt to play a new Maths game called Flower Gardens. We need to throw the die and add them together. We put a counter on the flower with the same number. The first person who has all their counters on the numbers wins.
